Pathfinder: A Cat’s Bite is Worse Than Its … Meow.

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced CatfolkComing up next from Jon Brazer Enterprises is the Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Catfolk. This release has a number of options for cat lovers everywhere. But what I want to show off first are the two new Alternate Racial Traits. These two are perfect of any feline player character. Check them out.

Feline Bite: Some catfolk are adept at delivering powerful bites in combat. Catfolk with this racial trait have a bite attack they can use as a natural weapon. This bite is a primary attack that deals 1d6 points of damage. This replaces natural hunter.

Nine Lives (Su): A few catfolk exhibit a preternatural knack for avoiding or surviving perils that would kill any other being. Up to eight times over the course of their lifetime, such catfolk can use one instance of this ability to save his life as follows: If an attack or effect would otherwise kill him due to hit point loss, he is instead knocked unconscious and automatically stabilizes at –1 hp. If an attack or effect would otherwise kill him due to energy drain, he is instead knocked unconscious, but retains a number of negative levels equal to his hit dice minus one. If an attack or effect would kill him due to Constitution damage or drain, he is instead knocked unconscious and his Con is reduced to 1. This replaces cat’s luck.

Pathfinder: Catfolk Web Enhancements

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Catfolk With Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Catfolk coming out soon, we wanted to share with you a few things written for this release that we are not including … yet. Science fiction elements have recently been stated up by Paizo for the campaign setting. Since we cannot refer to the book from which it comes, we thought we would share with you on the web some technology for catfolk. If and when there is a technology book in the Pathfinder RPG line, we will be happy to publish this and other technological elements in a supplement.

New Racial Technological Item

The following weapon is manufactured by catfolk technologists.
Lioness Lance
Type
two-handed melee; Proficiency martial
Damage 1d8 piercing and 1d8 electricity; Critical x3
Capacity 8; Usage 1 charge/round; Special touch
Price 8,000 gp; Weight 11 lbs.

Description

This longspear is fashioned from ultralight metal alloys and features an insulated grip, finger trigger, and conductive tip—similar to a stun baton but with a larger battery capacity. It also houses an intravenous injector unit in the grip which is activated by a secondary trigger. By activating the primary trigger as a swift action, the wielder can cause the tip of the longspear to charge up and crackle with electricity. On a successful melee attack, a lioness lance deals 1d8 points of electricity damage in addition to normal weapon damage, and the target must make a Fortitude save (DC = 15 + the damage dealt by the electrical charge) or be stunned for 1 round. The electricity damage and stun effect can also be delivered as a touch attack. Additionally, the lance can be loaded with a single potion which is injected into the wielder’s bloodstream when the secondary trigger is activated (also a swift action).
Construction

Requirements Craft Technological Arms and Armor, military lab; Craft DC 27; Cost 4,000 gp

New Racial Hybrid Item

The following item is made by catfolk spellcasters and technologists working in conjunction.
Divine Reservoir
Aura faint transmutation; CL 6th
Slot none; Price 2,250 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Description

These magical batteries are created by catfolk tech riggers and blessed by priests of Sekhmet. Their design is based on recovered schematics and salvaged components found in the wreckage of great starships once piloted by Sekhmet’s followers (see “In Your Campaign” for more details on these ships and where they came from) and are frequently used by their temple guardians to enhance the power of a lioness lance. A divine reservoir functions as a normal battery, except that it can be recharged by any worshiper of Sekhmet by expending one daily use of channel positive energy per charge restored, up to a maximum of 10 charges. Charges restored to the battery in this manner impart an extra 2d6 points of bonus damage (as the divine power from flame strike) to attacks with any technological weapon powered by the divine reservoir.
Construction

Requirements Channel Smite, Craft Technological Item, align weapon, production lab, caster creator must worship Sekhmet; Craft DC 27; Cost 1,125 gp

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced TengusIts been a while since we have done a review roundup. So here’s a whole bunch of things that people are saying about Jon Brazer Enterprises products. All of these reviews come from d20PFSRD. Download your games from d20PFSRD today from Pathfinder, Traveller, 13th Age and much more. First up, we have an amazing 5-STAR review for Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Tengus.

Pretty slick. I read the Advanced Race Guide but this is even better.

Next up, we have a 4 Star Review for 13th Age version of Deadly Delves: Reign of Ruin adventure.

Over all, I found this to be well written and easy to follow, decently illustrated, and nicely mapped. The background is adaptable enough that the adventure could reasonably fit into any swampy area of just about any game world.

I strongly recommend.

I have to mention this 5 STAR Review of Book of Heroic Races: Reapers.

Psychopomps are also just plain awesome. It’s a crime that paizo doesn’t have an official player race for them. Perhaps, they should just adopt this one.

Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes earned a pair of 5 STAR Review.

Lots of great creatures to use for my campaign.

With variety ranging from the grimdark fallen angel to the ludicrous but adorable sabre-toothed gerbilsaurus I have no reservations at all about giving this book 10/10

Pathfinder: Raging Changelings

BoHR Advanced Changelings (PFRPG)Tomorrow sees the release of the Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Changelings. This all female race consists of half-hags with two different colored eyes. We have a number of new options for this favorite race. Today we are sharing with you the new bloodrager bloodline: Cleansed. The power of the hag’s negative influence has been burned away and you can draw power from that cleansing to cast spells when your character is raging. Check it out below.

Cleansed
Somewhere in your family history, a hag’s foul influence entered your bloodline. One of your ancestors cleansed that influence and your bloodrage channels that power into a potent weapon against sickness and despair.
Bonus Feats: Battle Cry (ACG), Die Hard, Endurance, Great Fortitude, Improved Initiative, Mounted Combat, Skill Focus (Heal)
Bonus Spells: remove sickness (UM) (7th), remove paralysis (10th), remove disease (13th), remove curse (16th)
Bloodline Powers: Your blood thrums with the power to combat the unclean.
Purifying Flame (Su): At 1st level, when you deal damage with a melee attack to a creature that is able to inflict a curse, disease, fear, energy drain, or poison effect, you deal an additional 1d6 points of fire damage.
Blessed Endurance (Ex): At 4th level, you gain a +2 bonus on all saving throws against curse, disease, energy drain, fear, and poison effects. At 8th level, these bonuses increase to +4.
Breath of Fresh Air (Sp): At 8th level, you may call upon a mighty wind to sweep away foul airs. You gain gust of wind as a spell-like ability usable a number of times per day equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1).
Sympathetic Purification (Su): At 12th level, when you deal damage with a melee attack to a creature that has inflicted a curse, disease, fear, energy drain, or poison effect on one of your allies within 30 feet of you, one affected ally (your choice) receives an immediate new saving throw against that effect. A failed save does not worsen the effect.
Immolate (Su): At 16th level, when entering a bloodrage you can choose to exude an aura of fire. The aura is a 5-foot burst centered on you, and deals 2d6 + your Charisma modifier points of fire damage to creatures that end their turns within it. This ability ends all the following conditions affecting the bloodrager: confused, dazzled, diseased, poisoned and sickened.
Aura of Purity (Su): At 20th level, the power of your ancestor envelops you and radiates from you with a palpable warmth. You gain a sacred bonus on all saving throws equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1), and all allies within 20 feet of you benefit from your blessed endurance bloodline power.

Pathfinder: Preview of Some Awesome Upcoming Products

$

Hello, gamers! Editor Extraordinaire Richard Moore here, with a sneak peek of our product lineup for 2015! As we begin our foray into the second quarter of the year, we have a lot of exciting supplements in the pipeline, but none so anticipated as our Book Of Heroic Races Advanced series. By now, you probably know about a lot of the upcoming releases in this product line from our posts on social media, including merfolk, wyvarans, and lizardfolk. If you’re a subscriber, then you already have our take on tengu, catfolk, and changelings. But we want to go broader—to offer truly unique racial options for our readers.

So, it’s with no small pleasure that I introduce to you the first original race that will be published once we finish covering the material from Book Of Heroic Races: Advanced Favored Class Options. We’re going back to the drawing board to offer you a unique Small-sized playable race called the Pomeran.

BoHR Advanced Pomeran
Distant relatives of gnolls, the pomeran are a lovable, extroverted people who seek the company of adventuring parties as a means of curing their insatiable desire for attention and adulation. Most pomeran adventurers are barbarians, brawlers, or rogues, although a rare few with magical aptitude become bards, bloodragers, or skalds. We’re saving a lot of the details and advanced options  of this scrappy new race for the final product, but for now, feel free to use the following details to create your own pomeran PCs and NPCs for your game!

Ability Score Racial Traits: –2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, –2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma. Pomerans are quick and endearing, but lack higher reasoning and brawn.
Type: Pomerans are humanoids with the pomeran subtype.
Size: Pomerans are Small creatures and thus gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty on their combat maneuver checks and to Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Base Speed: Pomerans have a base speed of 30 feet.
Languages: Pomerans begin play speaking only Gnoll. Pomerans with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Abyssal, Celestial, Common, Infernal, and Sylvan.
Low-Light Vision: Pomerans can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Bite: Pomerans have a bite attack which they can use as a natural weapon. The bite is a primary attack that deals 1d4 points of damage.
Chase: Pomerans gain the benefit of the Run feat when moving toward a creature that is withdrawing or otherwise actively retreating from combat, regardless of the load they are carrying or the armor they are wearing. Additionally, their bite attack deals double damage to withdrawing or retreating creatures.
Fervent Attention: Pomerans are doggedly tenacious when doing something that interests them. They receive a +4 racial bonus to all concentration checks.
Fetch: If a creature within a range equal to the pomeran’s speed drops an object, whether willingly or due to being disarmed or otherwise forced to drop an item by some effect, the pomeran may, as an immediate action, move up to its speed, picking up the dropped object at any point during its movement.

…Alright, so by now you’re probably figured out that this is our April Fool’s Day post. But really, in all seriousness, we also want to post some previews of REAL upcoming material. For instance, we’re working on some great new supplemental material for Gms who want to spice up things at their table. One such game aid is a short supplement of new monster templates, like this jewel that’s guaranteed to get your players’ attention at your next session:

NEW MONSTER TEMPLATE: Screw You Guys, It’s A Creature (CR +0, because screw you guys)
A screw you guys, it’s a creature is a more powerful version of a given monster type that can withstand punishment from twinked-out, min-maxed character builds with enragingly powerful ability combos like ragelancepounce or broke-ass feats like Clustered Shots or the pre-errata Crane Wing*.

A screw you guys, it’s a creature gains maximum hit points for its hit dice, a +10 insight bonus to AC, CMD, attacks, and CMB checks, and a +10 luck bonus to all damage rolls. It also gains Improved Great Fortitude, Improved Iron Will, and Improved Lightning Reflexes as bonus feats (even if it does not meet the prerequisites for these feats). Additionally, it gains DR 10/legendary (“legendary” is defined as any damage source with a total enhancement bonus of +10 or higher, because screw you, that’s why), heavy fortification, the benefits of the Improved Evasion rogue talent, the Dual Initiative mythic universal monster ability, and Spell Resistance equal to its CR + 22. That oughta teach the little bastards.

…Okay, okay,  you got me: this one’s not real either. April Fool’s, again. But for super serious this time, we’re also working on a new print compendium called Book Of Magic: Relics Of Power, which will feature awesome new weapons like this:

Deauxphis’ Bane

Aura moderate conjuration and transmutation; CL 10th; Weight 2 lbs.; Price 50,308 gp

DESCRIPTION

Forged by a warmage and brigade blacksmith suffering intolerably under his small-minded commander, Major Deauxphis, this weapon famously cut down the general when he turned on his lieutenant for disobeying a suicidal order that would have needlessly killed dozens of troops. It has passed from owner to owner since then, seeking out the most cunning minds to wield its might and slaking its thirst on the blood of fools.

This +3 returning kukri may be thrown as if it were a dagger without penalty. If tossed into the air as a move action, it flies to the creature with the lowest Intelligence score within 60 feet, attacking that creature once with an attack bonus equal to the caster level of the blade’s creator and then dropping to the ground.

On any successful hit against a creature with an Intelligence of 9 or lower, Deauxphis’ Bane deals 2d6 extra damage (as the bane weapon property), plus an additional amount of bleed damage equal to the target’s Intelligence penalty modifier. The weapon has no extra effect against creatures with an Intelligence of 10 or higher, although these creatures might still be subject to the seeking attack described above.

If used against a target with a higher Intelligence score than the wielder in combat, Deauxphis’ Bane forces its wielder to attempt a disarm check against themselves as an immediate action, using their own CMB against their own CMD. If disarmed, the blade flies into one of the target’s free hands or hovers next to them for 1 full round if they do not have a free hand. (This also occurs if the sword is thrown in the air around only creatures that have higher Intelligence scores than the wielder.)

CONSTRUCTION

Craft Magic Arms and Armor, bleed, detect thoughts, summon monster I, telekinesis, creator must have an Int score of 20 or higher; Cost 25,308 gp

So, I hope everyone reading this has enjoyed our sneak peek at Jon Brazer Enterprises’ 2015 product offerings, and that you’ll consider subscribing to our… um, guys?

Pathfinder: 5 Reasons Why I Love Ultimate Psionics

Elan Psychic WarriorUp until now, I have actively not talked about my fellow Pathfinder Compatible companies because I always felt that it was not proper. If I said anything less than positive, I felt that that was a snide way of saying my products are better, and if I said something glowing I was always afraid that someone would say that I am “shilling for my buddies.” So I stayed away from it. But honestly, I was not being true to myself. I typically love the work that my fellow Pathfinder Compatible publishers do and I want to take a few moments to share with you every so often some of my favorite Pathfinder Compatible books. Allow me to start with what I feel is the best Pathfinder Compatible book, and quite frankly better than some Pathfinder RPG books, available: Ultimate Psionics by Dreamscarred Press.

Let me start off by saying that I was not a fan of WotC 3.5 Psionics. I saw them gamebreakingly abused and outright banned them in my game. When Dreamscarred first brought them into Pathfinder, I rolled my eyes and continued the ban. But finally, I gave Dreamscarred’s version a fair chance and I was slowly won over. The mechanics are balanced, the classes are well thought out and are downright imaginative. How much do I love them? In the Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Series, two of my signature characters (the elan, pictured above, and the skinwalker) use classes from this book. So without further ado, here are 5 reasons why I love Ultimate Psionics.

5. The Aegis is the Summoner Done Right. The concept of the summoner is a good idea but it is a broken class in far too many respects: you have a ‘pet’ that is just as good as you in combat, effectively doubling your number of attacks and your ability to flank, it has the spell list of a 9 level spellcaster compressed into 6 levels, and it gets many key spells earlier than their other spellcasting counterparts. So you have the option of allowing the eidolon to hit things while you cast spells a 6-level caster should not have or the two to team up for a flanking duo. Under the right circumstances, any one of these would be fine, but all together, the class is just too good.

Enter the Aegis. Its a full BAB class that focuses on one thing: hitting things. There is no second creature you can flank with, no spellcasting. The main focus is a magical suit of armor that lets you either hit hard, hit fast or be in the middle. All your customization options are for you and not your other creature. I call it close to a ranger in the way it plays (at least, by the way that I played one), but there is no denying its summoner inspiration and definitely no denying that it got it right.

4. The Cryptic and the Dread are Just Damn Cool. Whether you can see the code behind the world, Matrix style, or you inspire terror in everyone you meet, these two classes are just freaking fun. I haven’t actually played either of these classes yet, but oh man do I want to. Sharing with my character’s enemies my fear of spiders should be entertaining to watch. Or simply erasing the target right in front of me. Yea, I want to play these classes.

3. They Mixed Classes Together Before it was Cool. Ultimate Psionics includes archetypes and options to mix psionic options for the core rulebook classes, way before the Advanced Class Guide did it. Augment your druidic spells with psionic power points, take the psionic cleric domain or psychic sorcerer bloodline, Add some psionic powers to your rogue, monk or fighter. Its all good.

2. Expanded Psionic Races. As a lover of ‘less than usual’ races, Ultimate Psionics has all mysterious races you remember of 3.5 psionics but they add in several of their own. The one I want to try the most is the forge born. This half-construct race is straight up magical cyborg. If you are not a fan of mixing your sci-fi with your fantasy, this race gets it right. Check it out. Also, if you see me at PaizoCon, be sure to ask me about my half-giant fighter sometime. ;)

1. Nothing Stands Out as Being Too Good. The hallmark of good game design is that everything feels reasonable in play and I have yet to find anything that is the “must have” option for the power gamer. Not worrying about that and allowing me to focus on telling a good story is what I love.
