Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Favored Class OptionsNot long ago, I had a discussion with a number of gamers that collectively said they want more options beyond the core book races. Since then, myself and a team of some excellent authors I have had the pleasure working with have been working hard on making that happen. We all still have alot to go to make this book as fabulous as we all want it to be. There is one part that is almost finished up: the favored class options. So here is the exhaustive list of all the classes that have favored class option:

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook: barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, wizard
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Players Guide: alchemist, antipaladin, cavalier, inquisitor, oracle, summoner, witch
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Magic: magus
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Combat: gunslinger, ninja, samurai
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Class Guide: arcanist, bloodrager, brawler, hunter, investigator, shaman, skald, slayer, swashbuckler, warpriest
Dreamscarred Press’s Ultimate Psionics: aegis, cryptic, dread, marksman, psion, psychic warrior, soulknife, tactician, vitalist, wilder
Rogue Genius Games’s Genius Guide to the Time Thief: time thief.

So which of those races have these favored class options?

ALL OF THEM.

That’s right. Every race in this book has 43 favored class options. It does not matter what class you take with any race, you are not limited to the standard hit point or skill point. Now you have options. How many options? We will reveal the final list of races soon. In the meantime, the cover shows 3 of the races in this book.

We hope you are as excited by this as we are. Happy Gaming.

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Favored Class OptionsEarlier this week, we shared with you all of the classes covered in Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Favored Class Options. We said that all of the races contained within will be getting a favored class option for all 43 of those classes. So the real question becomes, what races is this going to cover? Today, we’re bringing you that answer.

The Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Favored Class Options covers these races:

  • Android
  • Catfolk
  • Changeling
  • Elan
  • Gillman
  • Lizardfolk
  • Merfolk
  • Samsaran
  • Skinwalker
  • Tengu

A dozen races each getting 43 different favored class options means there are a total of over 500 different favored class options for your game. Also these are the races that we will be releasing more details on in 2015. I hope you are excited as we are for this wild ride of races.

Book of Beasts: War on YuletideThis is the time of year in the U.S. when holidays are ubiquitous. We just passed Halloween, Veteran’s Day is upon us, Thanksgiving is coming soon, and a number of other religious and seasonal holidays are also coming up in December.

Amid all the celebrations and precious time with loved ones, please remember to give to those in need around you as well. The colder months of the year hit many families in need particularly hard every year. So we at Jon Brazer Enterprises are asking you to give to give to your local Food Bank. Food Banks, such as the Food Bank of South Jersey which is local to me, provide assistance to families in need throughout the U.S. all year long. Help someone to have a Merry Christmas or a Happy Holiday by giving to your local food bank (you can find more information about your local food bank at FoodPantries.org).

Since we’re gamers, let’s game this. Whenever you donate food, money, or time to your local food bank, make sure to tell your friends on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ that you did so with the hashtag #AdventurersHelpingOut. As our thanks, we will send you a free copy of Book of Beasts: War on Yuletide.

Also, we are going to give as well. Half of all the proceeds from The Book of Beasts: War on Yuletide sold between now and November 30th from DriveThruRPG/RPGNow.com, Paizo.com, and d20PFSRD.com will go to the Food Bank of South Jersey.

So spread the word. Give your time, donate some food or money, and tell your gaming friends everywhere to give—and get some monsters for your holiday games, too!

Deadly Delves: Reign of Ruin (PFRPG)Next week sees the release of the Pathfinder version of the Deadly Delves: Reign of Ruin. Some monsters are new and others are existing monsters with the half dragon template added to them. Yes, this dragon has been busy! Right now I want to share with you two of those half dragons in this adventure. We hope you enjoy them in your own Pathfinder campaigns.

Ixtupi Dragonblood Brutes

This lizardfolk stands a full head taller than his savage brethren, his scales a deep, near-black green and his eyes a bright crimson red. Leathery wings spanning eight feet rise from his shoulders, and his facial structure is noticeably more primal and draconic than the rest of the Ixtupi.

DarlanreaBeing Friday, I thought we would do something a little different for today’s preview. Today, I would like to take a moment to introduce you to our first signature character to grace the cover of one of our adventures. She is as tough as she is graceful and earns her place on this adventure, fighting against a terrifying black dragon. Here is a bit more about her.

Name: Darlanrea Moonbright
Race: Elf
Gender: Female
Age: 121
Background: Lieutenant in the Elven High Guard
Reason for Becoming an Adventurer: Unknown; Darlanrea refuses to discuss it.

Lieutenant Darlanrea Moonbright was once a fast-rising star in the Elven High Guard. At the Battle of Summer Ridge, she distinguished herself and earned her commission by taking command of her squad after their officer was killed. Despite being outnumbered four to one, her troops held off several orc fangs bearing down on them until reinforcements arrived, at the cost of more than a few lives. She was later awarded the Mithril Leaf for her bravery during a skirmish with a horde of skeletons at Fall’s Reach.

During her impressive military career, Darlanrea learned to fight with many weapons. Unlike other elves who rely on their dexterity in battle, her physical strength is her main asset in combat. Her twin longswords, Fade and Frosteel, have made their way into the legends of local monster tribes as dealers of doom and and retribution, and few have ever stood against her in single combat for more than a handful of seconds. Darlanrea also earned a formidable reputation as an archer that never misses her mark. She has killed many a foe from a great distance with the assistance of her longbow, Eagle’s Eye. The tattoo on her face was originally started to hide a scar she earned in battle with an ettercap. She liked it so much that she had the artist add to it after every major engagement in which she fought. She has a number of other tattoos on her body as well although most are hidden from sight by her armor. Her favorite one is her old unit’s symbol, an arrow and a longsword crossed beneath a magnolia tree, inked on her left forearm. Some of her other tattoos include a pegasus in heavy barding, the draconic symbol for honor and gold, and a faerie dragon sleeping beneath a daisy.

No one knows precisely why Darlanrea chose to end her military career. All that is known is that one morning she approached the company’s commanding officer and informed him that she was resigning her commission and her position in the Elven High Guard. Some say there were tears in her eyes when she resigned, as if she harbored a dark secret or great burden. Witnesses say she was disheveled and bruised when she delivered her resignation, and speculate that she may have been attacked by one of her fellow soldiers shortly beforehand. A few whisper that she decided she could make more coin as an adventurer than as a soldier. But no one really knows for certain why she left the Elven High Guard–and if Darlanrea has confided her reason in anyone, they aren’t talking.

image Beware The Blackener Of Bright Waters, For She Is Come Again

Rumors of death move like a plague through the Crannogtowns of the Great Swamp—of ranger patrols mysteriously disappearing on routine scouting missions, of a winged shadow that blots out the midday sun, and of entire villages slaughtered, their homes left burning and the victims’ flesh melted from their bones. All evidence gathered from the sites of these massacres points to the heart of the Great Swamp, where an ancient and primitive tribe of lizardfolk have ruled from an abandoned human temple for centuries on end. The Crannogtowns’ protectors, the Stormhammer Rangers, warn that horrid half-dragon monstrosities still stalk the bogs and travelers would do well to stay away from the inner swamp. Yet the killing and the carnage continue, and the people of the Crannogs plead for heroes to aid them now as they did in days long forgotten. Are you up to the challenge?

Reign Of Ruin is the first full-length adventure module in Jon Brazer Enterprises’ Deadly Delves series, and is compatible with the best-selling Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Deadly Delves Rescue from Tyrkaven PFRPGNext week sees the release of our second adventure for Pathfinder in the Deadly Delves line: Rescue from Tyrkaven. It starts out simple enough: hobgoblin raiders kidnap a caravan full of workers and supplies, and the adventurers set off to get them all back. Unfortunately for everyone, neither the raiders nor the adventurers know what terrifying horrors await them in the depths of the cavern hideout. Now, the adventurers must risk it all to prevent the minions of an ancient enemy from visiting death and destruction upon the land. Can the heroes rescue the captives from the hobgoblins and deliver them from this ancient foe—or will they all perish, ushering in the rise of a forgotten deity?

This short, 2nd-level adventure is great for both setting the tone of a dark campaign or for a one-shot convention game. We are really excited to have this one finally come out. I have been looking forward to its release for quite some time and I hope that you download it and give it a try.

And don’t worry 13th Age fans, your version of this adventure is coming soon.

Meet the Iconics: Edward

Edward As our last preview for Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven before it goes live, we’re sharing the tale of the iconic that graces its cover, Edward Amante. When I asked Luis to draw him, the single most important instruction I gave him was (and I quote), “He should look like a guy that can charm the panties off a woman. The bastard!” Unlike so many male fantasy characters, his is a tale of love, and a testament to the determination it provides. I hope you enjoy his story.

Name: Edward Amante
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Background: Thief from the Vencian Kingdom
Reason for Becoming an Adventurer: To win the hand of Princess Yolanda

Before leaving his home country, Edward was known as Eduardo the Thief. He stole gold, jewels, and anything else not nailed down. No valuables were so well secured that he could not find a way to gain them for his own keeping. Yet Eduardo’s wide-spread notoriety as a thief came not from relieving the rich of the burden of their treasure and coin, but rather from stealing a far more valuable prize: the heart of the Princess Yolanda.

For two years, Eduardo evaded the castle guards time and again to see his fair love. If the tales are to be believed, he never stole a single coin or trinket from her that entire time. That is, until one day, when the king caught Yolanda and Eduardo together and sequestered them within the princess’ chambers. For hours, the three talked, with strict orders to the guards that they were not to be disturbed. To this day, no one knows what was said in that room. All that is known is that when Eduardo left the castle later that night, he took up the name Edward, and he has fought with honor and courage ever since.

No one knows exactly what Edwards seeks now. Some say he hopes to make a good name and an honest fortune, the king having promised that should Edward prove to make amends for his crimes, he will win the hand of his love Yolanda. Others believe that he was told of a fell curse upon the royal family which no enchanter or priest can lift, and was charged with finding a way to undo it. To date, the Princess Yolanda refuses all suitors and is frequently found staring out the castle’s north windows, said to be awaiting the return of her one true love.

Edward stands tall on the cover of Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven. Download this adventure for Pathfinder at DriveThruRPG/RPGNow, Paizo, and d20PFSRD.

Exclusive Look Inside Advanced Tengus

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced TengusTo say I have been busy lately has been an understatement. Between being sick and my girlfriend’s birthday (which, she was really happy with all I did for her this year), I have barely had enough time to get layouts of Advanced Tengus and Quests of the Sands done and have totally failed to do any kind of previews. Well, better late than never. So starting today and running through next week, I’m going to be posting exclusive looks inside these and other recent releases that I have not shared properly.

We’re going to start off with the Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Tengus. This 23 page PDF gives you everything you need to play a tengu. It starts off with a piece of short fiction and presents the racial traits. But it goes beyond that by presenting new archetypes, feats, spells, magic items and more. For this exclusive looks, we’re sharing my favorite archetype, the Spell Scavenger. This wizard archetype draws power from others that cast spells at it and turns that power on its enemies. Check it out.

Spell Scavenger
Spell scavengers use residual scraps of magic from other spellcasters to power their spells.
Associated Class: wizard
Associated Race: tengu
Replaced Abilities: bonus feat (5th, 10th and 15th levels only)
Modified Abilities: spells

Diminished Spellcasting: A spell scavenger may cast one fewer spell of each level than normal. If this reduces the number to 0, he may cast spells of that level only if his Intelligence allows bonus spells of that level.

Scavenge Magic (Su): A spell scavenger can use leftover bits of magical energy to power his spells. When he succeeds on a saving throw against a spell or spell-like ability which targets him or includes him in its area of effect, he can use the energy of that spell to cast a spell in the next round.  If he has the spell prepared, he can cast the same spell the following round without expending the prepared spell. If the spell is on his spell list but not prepared, he can use the spell energy to cast a spell up to one level lower which he has prepared without expending the prepared spell. If the spell is not on his list, he can use the spell energy to cast a spell up to two levels lower which he has prepared without expending the prepared spell. The spell scavenger cannot gain the energy of a spell that does not require a saving throw.

Steal Magic (Su): At 5th level, when a spell scavenger successfully ends a spell with dispel magic or a similar effect, he can attempt a second caster level check against the spell’s caster level. If he is successful in this second attempt, he can cast that spell once as if he had prepared it. If the spell was modified which a metamagic feat, the spell scavenger casts it in its modified form, even if he does not possess the feat. A spell scavenger can only have one stolen spell readied in this way at any time. If he steals a second spell, the previously stolen spell is immediately lost. This ability does not work when the magic is merely suppressed, such as when when dispel magic is cast on a magic item. If the spell is of a level higher than the spell scavenger is normally able to cast, the spell scavenger must succeed a caster level check to successfully cast the stolen spell (DC = spell’s caster level +1). If this check fails, a mishap occurs (see Scroll Mishaps in the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, under Section 15: Magic Items). If the spell is not on the wizard spell list, the spell scavenger can still cast the spell as if it were a scroll, using either Use Magic Device or his caster level to cast the spell. Alternatively, the spell scavenger can record the spell in his spellbook or create a scroll without a check, while still needing to pay the writing cost for the spell in the book or to create the scroll, respectfully.

Improved Scavenge Magic (Su): At 10th level, three times per day, a spell scavenger can make a melee touch attack against a spellcaster. If the touch attack is successful, he steals a randomly selected spell of the caster’s highest level prepared spells or spells known. The touched caster loses the spell and the spell scavenger gains the energy of the spell as as if he had succeeded the spell’s saving throw.

Greater Scavenge Magic (Su): At 15th level, a spell scavenger can gain the energy of a spell when he fails a spell’s saving throw. Once per day, he can choose to gain the energy of a spell that targeted him or included him in its area of effect even if he failed the spell’s saving throw or if the spell did not require a saving throw. The spell still affects the spell scavenger as normal.

This isn’t the only archetype in the book, there’s also the aerialist (swashbuckler archetype, where you leap over the heads of your enemies in dramatic acrobatic assaults), crow shaman (shaman archetype, where you can use your trickster nature to steal objects at a short range), kite fighter (fighter archetype where you wield a war kite with exceptional effect), raven knight (cavalier archetype where you get to ride a giant raven mount), and the spite chanter (cleric archetype that uses channel energy to harm all nearby, regardless of creature type).

Continuing our series of exclusive looks inside recent JBE releases, let’s take a look within Book of Magic: The Lost Spell Words. This is not our first expansion on the words of power magic system. It is, however, the longest delayed. As I explained in the introduction, I literally lost these spell words and found them again later.

Now that they are published and ready to use in your game, what exactly is inside shall now be revealed. These are two spell words inside this short PDF.

Object (Meta Word)
Level 1
This metaword alters the saving throw, making it affect objects, such as undead and constructs. If the wordspell requires a Fortitude save, this metaword allows it to affect objects. This change does not affect whether or not a successful save negates the effect, reduces it, or has some other effect; it simply alters the types of creatures that can be affected by it. This has no effect on wordspells that require a Reflex or Will save.

Persistent (Meta Word)
Level 4
Whenever a creature targeted by a wordspell or within the area affected by this metaword succeeds on its saving throw, it must make another saving throw against the effect. If a creature fails this second saving throw, it suffers the full effects of the wordspell, as if it had failed its first saving throw.

Pathfinder: Exclusive Look at the Maps of the Sands

Deadly Delves: Quests of the Sands (PFRPG)The last exclusive look that I wanted to get out last week, I did not have time to post. So I took a few moments over the weekend to prepare some of the maps from Deadly Delves: Quests of the Sands. These two beautiful maps are from the short adventures Wreck of the Golden Barque and the Bandit King’s Hideout. Each of these short adventures, or quests, are enough for one night’s adventure with little preparation needed for the GM. All of these are Egyptian themed but work well for an Arabian themed campaign. Click on the image to see larger versions of these maps.
